Chris Heerkes to Retire From Grundy County Sheriff's Department
04/22/2014 - Grundy County Deputy Sheriff, Chris Heerkes is retiring at the end of the month. Heerkes has served as a Deputy Sheriff with the Grundy County Sheriff's Office since 1985 as well as the county's Emergency Management Coordinator since 2002. Grundy County Sheriff Rick Penning tells KQCR News that the Grundy County Emergency Management Commission has a 28-E agreement with the Sheriff's office to provide one of its officers to serve in the capacity of Emergency Management Coordinator. That officer spends half his time as deputy, the other half as emergency management coordinator. Penning says his office will continue to provide that service. Penning says he hopes to have a new deputy hired to replace Heerkes by July 1st. A retirement coffee for Chris Heerkes will be held April 30th, 1 til 3pm at the Grundy County Law Enforcement Center in Grundy Center.
