Work Resumes at Wellsburg Wind Farm
04/23/2014 - Work has resumed at the site of a new wind farm near Wellsburg. In May 2013, MidAmerican Energy announced plans to build up to 1-thousand fifty megawatts of new wind generation in Iowa including a 60 turbine farm near Wellsburg in Grundy County. Last fall access roads were installed along with foundations for 9 of the 60 turbines. Project Director, Spencer Moore tells KLMJ/KQCR News the remaining foundations will be finished this spring and early summer along with the installation of the electrical collection system that transports energy developed by the turbines to the project substation. Moore says once turbine components arrive in mid August, it will take around three months for all 60 to be erected with the wind farm scheduled to go online by the end of this year. Moore anticipates when construction hits its peak later this summer, 150 to 200 people will be working at the wind farm. Once complete, there will be 6 fulltime employees. Other current projects are located in Highland, Webster City, Macksburg and Marshall County.
Foundation work began in December 2013.
