Marble Rock and Rockford Libraries Put Foundation Grants in Action
04/24/2014 - Libraries in Marble Rock and Rockford recently received grants through the Floyd County Community Foundation to help support the after school program and archiving newspapers. 9 students are involved with the after school program at the Marble Rock Library that offers students crafts, snacks, reading materials, educational toys, and a chance to complete homework. The program, supervised by an adult and middle school volunteers each school day runs between 3:30 and 5pm. Recent activities have included making Easter baskets, building with Legos and decorating the "Easter Egg" tree outside the library. Rockford Public Library employees have begun the process of archiving newspapers from the Rockford area, with the help of the Advantage Company in Cedar Rapids. Eventually, the goal of library manager Stacy Tynan is to digitize all newspapers from 1887 through the present, so that online search engine programs can be used to locate subject matter.
