Hampton Man Named Kiwanis International Layperson of the Year
08/19/2014 - A Hampton man has been named the 2013/2014 Kiwanis International Layperson of the Year for the Nebraska-Iowa District. Duane Carstens received the award today (Tue) from Netha Brada, Lieutenant Governor for the Nebraska-Iowa District and Brad Scheideman, President of the Hampton Kiwanis Club. The Layperson of the year award honors non-clergy Kiwanis members who are active in their home Kiwanis club and their religious communities. Carstens tells KLMJ News he was very humbled to receive the award. Carstens says he enjoys helping others when and where he can, yet sometimes feels he isn't doing enough so being recognized for his contributions is extra special. Carstens has been a member of the Hampton Kiwanis Club for about 15 years, is a past president and instrumental in getting the Bring up Grades or BUGS program implemented into the Hampton Dumont Middle School. Kiwanis is a global organization of member-volunteers who are dedicated to changing the world, one child and one community at a time.
