Belmond Police Cracking Down on Stop Sign Violators
04/24/2014 - Belmond Police are cracking down on motorists who are not stopping at the stop signs at 5th Street Southeast and Luick's Lane South, north of Eaton's. The stop signs were recently installed as part of the detour route around a bridge replacement on Highway 69 just south of Belmond. Police Chief Rick McDaniel told the city council this week that his officer's had been giving out warnings, but are now issuing tickets. McDaniel also said there will be more of a police presence on 5th Street Southeast to watch over the trail crossing during the detour. The detour is expected to be in place until late this fall.
