Iowa DNR Reports Most Campsites Booked For Labor Day Weekend
8/20/2014 - Camp sites at Iowa state parks will be difficult to come by this Labor Day holiday, according to the Iowa Department of Natural Resources. The DNR reports most camp sites with electricity around Iowa have been off the market for weeks prior to the three-day Labor Day weekend. Pilot Knob State Park near Forest City still has 11 modern camp sites available for last-minute reservations.
As Labor Day approaches, several hunting seasons will also get underway on the first of the month. Rabbit- and squirrel-hunting seasons start next Saturday, with hunting allowed from sunrise to sunset. Dove season runs September 1 through November 9, after 118,000 doves were harvested during the 2013 season. Shooting hours are a half-hour before sunrise to a half-hour before sunset each day. Squirrel numbers are expected to be similar to last year's.
