Severe storms and tornadoes strike parts of Iowa

Severe storms lifted northeast across western into central Iowa yesterday late in the afternoon into the evening.

Based on preliminary reports, at least 10 tornadoes occurred over central Iowa in the warning area of responsibility for the National Weather Service Office in Des Moines.

Damage to trees and homes has been reported in multiple counties from Crawford to Union and Ringgold up to around Polk and Jasper Counties.

Storm survey teams from Des Moines and Omaha will be out today to begin the storm survey process.

Iowa Governor Kim Reynolds issued a disaster proclamation for Pottawattamie County in response to the severe storms.

The Storm Prediction Center received at least 78 reports of tornadoes in the U-S Friday.
