The Hampton American Legion held their Memorial Day program Monday. Due to the weather, the program was held in the auditorium at the Church of the Living Word.

The guest speaker was Mike Arndorfer of Hampton, a retired Iowa Army National Guardsman.

Michael Arndorfer 5-27-24

“How should we the living best honor those lives and those memories of our fallen comrades on this day? Flags should be flown at half staff from sunrise until noon and then lifted to full staff to signify hope and to honor all our country’s war heroes. Today is the day that we put aside to remember heroes and to pray that no heroes will ever have to die for us again. It’s a day of thanks for the valor of others, a day to remember the splendor of America and those of her children who rest in the cemetery and others across the nation. It is a day to be with family and remember.”

Arndorfer joined the Iowa Army National Guard in October of 1983. He retired from the guard in May 2005. He currently works as a postmaster in Hampton.
