Coolest Thing Made in Iowa Announced Last Week

Sukup Manufacturing Co. of Sheffield has constructed hundreds of what are called Safe T Homes that have been placed in developing countries around the world. This year, voters propelled the Safe T Home product as one of the finalists for the inaugural “Coolest Thing Made in Iowa” contest.

A self-propelled baler from Vermeer Corporation, based in Pella, was named as the “Coolest Thing Made in Iowa” during the Iowa Association of Business and Industry’s Taking Care of Business Conference last week in Davenport.

The other finalists this year were a custom-built pipe organ from Dobson Pipe Organ Builders of Lake City and Musco Sports Lighting from Musco Lighting of Oskaloosa.

The inaugural “Coolest Thing Made in Iowa” competition aims to highlight Iowa’s robust and diverse manufacturing industry, which contributes roughly $38 billion to the economy annually and employs over 225,000 Iowans.
