Nebraska man arrested in north Iowa sent to federal prison

A 39-year-old Nebraska man was sentenced last week to more than 10 years in federal prison after he entered a guilty plea in June to one count of possession with the intent to distribute methamphetamine.

Jose L. Velez, Senior from Omaha was arrested by the Cerro Gordo County Sheriff’s Department in Mason City on February 23rd, and a search turned up several pounds of meth in his vehicle.

Velez admitted that he knowingly and intentionally possessed with the intent to distribute 14 pounds of a mixture or substance containing a detectable amount of methamphetamine.

Velez must also serve a 5-year term of supervised release after his prison term.  There is no parole in the federal system.
