The latest U-S Drought Monitor Report shows that through Tuesday, the recent rain and snow has allowed for a small area of extreme drought to disappear in northwest Iowa.

The area covered by the moderate drought category decreased by almost 21 percent, while the area of abnormally dry conditions increased by over 20 percent.

Nearly 21 percent of Iowa is now drought free.

In the broadcast area, all of Wright County, along with most of Cerro Gordo, Franklin, Hardin, and southwestern Grundy County are listed as being abnormally dry.

The rest of the local area, including all of Butler County, is in a moderate drought.
