Hampton Police Department Captain Mike Halsne has the following advice for residents who are being contacted about storm damage they may have received from the storms which hit the area this morning.

“There’s obviously some damage in town, whether it be to your roofs, your homes, your vehicles, whatever. And along with that comes people that are trying to take advantage of those people that have been through some misfortune with storm weather. And in doing so, just make sure you’re being vigilant. You’re asking people, you know, how they got in touch with you. Whether it’s through your insurance company, ask them what your insurance company’s name is. Try not to give as much information as possible until you can vet them and make sure that they’re who they say they are. Don’t enter into contracts until you verify that these people legitimate. Make sure that they’re insured and qualified to do the work that they’re doing.”

Halsne says if you have questions, you can contact the police department.
