Geneva Playground Project Committee Raising Funds for New Playground

The Geneva Playground Project Committee is raising funds for a new playground on the school grounds, on the southwest part of town.

The committee was formed in November with a goal of raising $80,000. Laura Hofmeister is a member of the committee and tells RadioOnTheGo News why members of the community wanted to start this project.

“The city of Geneva wanted to build a playground, but they needed help raising the funds. So the group of us kind of got together and decided that we would start some fundraising, start some, you know, reaching out, finding some grants and seeing what we could come up with for the city to build the playground. We’ve had a lot of good luck finding some grants and also local businesses that have jumped on board and donated. And then people from the community, everybody seems to be really excited about getting a new playground in the town of Geneva.”

Hofmeister says they are nearing their fundraising goal and hope to have the playground built by September.

“We have raised almost $32,000, which has been really good progress so far. And the Geneva Betterment Committee, which is the people that host the Geneva Market, they have offered to do a $30,000 match. So we are actually really close to reaching our goal. We have a little bit more work to do, but we’re continuing to reach out to some local businesses and just hoping to get the word out there a little bit more. We’re on Facebook trying to promote ourselves that way and promote the businesses that have supported us. So hopefully we can get our reach out just a little bit further to help us get down to the final number that we’re looking for to get the playground put together.”
