Four Aplington-Parkersburg teams took on Columbus Catholic Wednesday.
The #10 (1A) girls tennis team fell 8-1 on the road against the #9 (1A) Sailors. Peyton Klooster got the win in singles play. They’ll return to action Thursday at Charles City at 4:15.
The boys tennis team fell 7-2 at Columbus. The wins were by Jonah Carney in singles and Carney/Noah Harbaugh in doubles. They’ll host Hampton-Dumont-CAL Thursday at 4:15.
The #14 (1A) girls soccer team defeated the Sailors 1-0 at home. After 70 scoreless minutes, Adri Allen scored the game’s only goal with just less than 10 minutes left in the second half, and they hung on for the win. They’ll host GC-GR Thursday at 5:00 on 99 The Wave, with coverage starting at 4:50.
The #8 (2A) United won 6-0 on the road. They scored five goals in the first half and one in the second half while playing strong defense throughout. Aiden Merrill (2), Kellen Reints, Jackson Mulder, Mason Bertram and Ty Luhring each scored. They’ll be at GC-GR Thursday at 5:30.
In other Thursday action, the boys golf team will be at Hudson at 3:00.
The boys track & field team will be at the Norsemen Relays at Roland-Story at 4:30. Currently with a best time of 8:16.89, the 4×800-meter relay team of Titan Verrett, Caleb Campbell, Trevan Thomas and Sully Janssen is chasing the program record of 8:08. Janssen says it’s within reach.
“Just being eight seconds off the school record, we’re all pretty excited for that,” Janssen says. “We want that moment to come. We still got a long ways to go until districts. I know these four guys are going to do a lot.”
