A 60-year-old Garner man was arrested Wednesday afternoon in Mason City and charged with 2nd degree kidnapping. The Mason City Police Department reports about 1:17pm Wednesday they received a call of an attempted kidnapping at the Aldi Grocery Store on the west side of town.  Upon investigation, officers learned that a male wearing a disguise had attempted to abduct a female while displaying a weapon.  A short time later, the suspect and vehicle were located in Hancock County.

The suspect, Blair Justin Greiman, was taken into custody without incident.  He’s being held at the Cerro Gordo County Jail.  If convicted of 2nd degree kidnapping, he could be sentenced for up to 25-years in prison.

In 1981, Greiman was 16 when he attacked an 18-year-old woman in the K-Mart parking lot in Mason City.  He was convicted in a jury trial on the charges of first degree kidnapping, second degree sexual abuse, and for attempted murder.  He was sentenced to life in prison, but was granted parole in September 2017 after the United States Supreme Court ruled that life sentences without the opportunity for parole for juveniles was unconstitutional.
