Head Coach Collin Freesemann on events making strides for the Bearcats with championship season around the corner.
“The times are trending. We’re doing fine. I like how we’re trending here. Hopefully we catch some good weather and really see a drop in time,” says Freesemann. “I think you got to be excited about Alexis Rose in the 100 hurdles and in the open. She’s really been dropping time. She’s setting some goals here, I think she’s going to probably set some PRs coming down the stretch. Laney Brinkman is going to look really good, I think, in the 400 hurdles. Her time has been continually going down. Our 4×100 team is going to be on the borderline. If we get a little better at handoffs and get a little bit faster. I think we got a shot at maybe qualifying that as well. Izzy O’Dowd in the discus has been steady. No reason to think that she doesn’t have a shot as well.”
Clarksville
Top Placers:
1st in long jump, Paige Kampman
1st in 4×100
2nd in 100m, Paige Kampman
3rd in long jump, Emmalee Manwarren
5th in sprint medley relay, Addy Johnson, Claire Lodge, Paige Kampman, Emmalee Manwarren – 1:58.54 (New School Record)
Clarksville’s SMR team on their cohesiveness and breaking a school record during their first time competing in the event.
“We all know each other’s speed, know our strengths and weaknesses, so even though we haven’t practiced the handoffs really that much, it worked out pretty good,” says Manwarren. “We like to push each other a lot in practice, we’re all really competitive. If the handoff isn’t right, we just keep on doing it until it’s perfect,” says Kampman. “The team chemistry we have from doing all sports together, it just made it a lot easier,” says Lodge. “First time running it, just goes to show how much we have gotten faster through the years, then coming back and doing it,” says Kampman. “I think it’s cool that these were handoffs we’ve never done before and think of how much we could improve, if we keep doing it as the year goes on,” says Lodge. “I didn’t really know what to expect, but we did a pretty good job,” says Johnson.
