Belmond-Klemme Spring Sports Update 5-8-25

The Belmond-Klemme track and field teams will compete at Top Iowa Conference West meet hosted by West Hancock on Thursday. 

The Belmond-Klemme boys hold the fifth fastest conference time in 4x800m relay (8:54.88) and distance medley relay (3:57). Braden Dougherty has the fifth highest jump in the conference (5-10). Head Coach Shannon Muhlenbruch on how a meet like this prepares the team for state qualifying.

“Our side of the conference, with Garner, Forest City, North Union and Lake Mills got some good stuff. Our side of the conference is really good and we have to run some things really well just to get up into third places and things like that,” says Muhlenbruch. “That’s what we put together for conference, some things that maybe get in the top two or three or four. It’s good for us because it sets us up for our district track meet which is incredibly tough.”

Lila Swenson enters with the seventh fastest time in the 1500m (5:34.05) and the eighth fastest time in the 800m (2:39.44) to lead the Bronco girls.

Additional teams in attendance include Bishop Garrigan, Forest City, Garner-Hayfield-Ventura, North Iowa, Lake Mills, Eagle Grove and North Union. 

The meet is scheduled to begin at 4:00 p.m. in Britt. 

The Wright County boys soccer team (3-7-2) will host #7 (3A) Webster City (10-0) on Thursday. Wright County will look to put a stop to a three game slide and earn a series split with the Lynx. Byron Tux Coc leads the team with six goals.

The girls soccer team (1-6-3) will travel to Webster City (4-5-1) for a match on Thursday. Wright County in recent matches earned their first win of the season over Hampton-Dumont-CAL on May 1 and fell to Humboldt on Monday. Jany Morales Mejia leads the team with three goals.

Both matches begin at 5:30 p.m.
