Local teams competed at NCC Tennis Tournament Wednesday, Track & Field Thursday

Local North Central Conference tennis teams competed in Wednesday’s conference tournaments.

In the girls tournament at Webster City, Iowa Falls-Alden placed fourth and Hampton-Dumont-CAL was sixth. Cadet singles players Joslin Johnson and Jordyn Carpenter each went 1-1 in singles play to bow out in the quarterfinal round. The doubles teams of Hailey Sudtelgte/Alivia Hansen and Leah Allen/Brylea Metzgar each went 1-1, with Allen/Metzgar winning a 13-11 tiebreaker in the first round to advance.

Hampton-Dumont-CAL went winless on the day. Lauren Hill and Mattelyn McGuire competed in singles. Yesi Valenzuela/Abby Drier and Ashley Chipahua/Autumn Janssen competed in doubles.

The boys tournament was in Fort Dodge, where Iowa Falls-Alden placed third. In singles, Brayden Moestchen lost two matches, but won two in between to take sixth place. Cam Madden fell in the first round and to teammate Moestchen in the first consolation round. In doubles, Carson Allen/Keaton Mulford went 1-1 in the championship bracket, but won all three matches in the consolation bracket to place fifth. Calvin Hutchinson/Cam Madden won their first two matches to advance to the semifinals, but fell in the semifinals and third place match to place fourth.

Hampton-Dumont-CAL’s Andyn White went 1-1 in the championship bracket. He advanced by forfeit in the first consolation match and fell in the consolation semifinals, before withdrawing from the seventh place match to place eighth. Teammate Jerry Flores went 0-2.

In doubles, Jaxson Rew/Alexis Sosa went 1-1 in the championship bracket. They went 1-1 in the consolation bracket, and finished the day by winning the seventh place match. Jerry Flores/Keaton Gunderson went 0-2.

Local North Central Conference schools will compete in Thursday’s conference track & field meets, with the boys at Clear Lake and the girls at Iowa Falls-Alden. Hampton-Dumont-CAL’s Colin Bird is a contender in the 400 hurdles, entering with the fastest time in the league. Iowa Falls-Alden’s Brody McNeal is tied for the second-best high jump mark.

In the girls meet, MaKayla Beisel of Clarion-Goldfield-Dows could contend in multiple events, entering with the top high jump mark and second-best 100 hurdles time. Hampton-Dumont-CAL’s Charlee Morton has by far the best marks in the throws. Iowa Falls-Alden’s Isabelle Janssen enters with the league’s fastest 100 hurdles time. The Cadet shuttle hurdle relay has the best mark in the league entering the meet.

Both will start at 4:30.
