Franklin REC is urging farmers to stay aware of power lines during fieldwork, this after four separate incidents in just five days where farm equipment struck utility poles. No injuries were reported, however, each situation caused power outages.
Franklin REC reminds farmers and equipment operators that while GPS systems are valuable tools, they do not replace the need to stay aware of surroundings. Utility poles and overhead lines can be difficult to see when focused solely on technology or the task at hand.
Farmers are encouraged to look up for utility poles and power lines before moving equipment, lower equipment when traveling between fields or near roads, and to remind employees and helpers to stay vigilant and aware.
