The Iowa Legislature adjourned the 2025 session today at 6:31am, going almost two weeks past the original planned end of the session on May 2nd.

Lawmakers adjourned without passing a bill to cut property taxes, a top priority for Republicans.

One of the topics which helped lawmakers move toward adjournment was passage of legislation that would limit eminent domain for carbon capture pipeline projects.

Other bills that passed included legislation aimed at strengthening Iowa’s health care workforce, and for the first time, Iowa will give four weeks of paid parental leave to state employees after they give birth.

Governor Kim Reynolds has 30 days from the end of the legislative session to sign or veto any bills passed by the legislature.
