The Hampton-Dumont-CAL girls soccer team will open the playoffs when they travel to Webster City for a 1A Region 8 first round game Monday. It’ll air on 99 The Wave.
The Bulldogs (0-13-1) will go for their first win of the season. In order to do so, they’ll need to bounce back from a streak of six games where they’ve been shut out.
Webster City (5-8-1) has lost three straight, including 5-0 to Humboldt in the regular season finale. The Bulldogs will look to slow down the offense of Janey Putney, who leads with 12 goals on the season.
“They’re beatable,” Hampton-Dumont-CAL coach Ben Schlachter says. “We’ve had them on ropes twice. When we were over there, we were right there, 1-0 game, and Maria broke her ankle. They kind of went on a flurry after that, and the scoreboard showed a little different than what the game actually was, to tell a different story. The girls really fought hard in that one, and I think we can go over there Monday and we have a chance. Put us on the field and give us an opportunity, if those girls do some of the things that they’ve been doing consistently, we can go take that one away from them.”
The teams met twice in conference play this season, with the Lynx winning 5-0 and 6-0. Coverage will start at 6:50 p.m., followed by the kickoff at 7:00. The winner will advance to Wednesday’s regional quarterfinal at #8 (1A) Dike-New Hartford.
