Bulldog Boys Soccer opening playoffs Tuesday at home

The Hampton-Dumont-CAL boys soccer team will begin the playoffs Tuesday when it hosts Charles City for a 2A Substate 2 first round game, which’ll air on 99 The Wave.

The 3-seed Bulldogs (9-3-3) will look to continue the momentum of a streak of three straight games without a loss. The offense has been sizzling as of late. In their regular season finale, they beat Garner Hayfield Ventura 9-0. They scored eight goals in two games at a tournament at Waverly-Shell Rock the previous weekend.

“Coming into this postseason, of course I hope that we do amazing and we go further than we’ve gone before, which you know essentially would be to state because we’ve played that third game a couple times,” Head Coach Danielle Arana says. “So we’ve just got to get past that little niche and I hope it’s with this team I hope it’s with some of those seniors that helped me build this program.”

Fernando Mota leads with 18 goals on the season.

Charles City (2-11-1) has given up 57 goals on the season, including a 9-1 loss to Mason City in their regular season finale. Carter Haberkorn and Jackson Kowalski have each scored five goals to lead the team.

Coverage will start at 6:50 p.m., followed by the kickoff at 7:00. The winner will advance to a substate semifinal at #9 (2A) AP/DNH on Tuesday, May 27.
