The West Fork and Dike-New Hartford Esports teams will race for the cup in Mario Kart 8 Deluxe at the IAHSEA Spring Showdown in Marshalltown on Wednesday.
West Fork went 7-0 during the regular season to advance to state and will be the #3 seed in the tournament.
Warhawks Head Coach Eric Burt on the team’s depth and strategy in races.
“The best thing about our team is we have a little bit of depth. We have kids involved in traditional athletics as well, like track or the play. We’ve had different kids step in and show up in roles and haven’t skipped a beat. The kids have performed well. Having that depth is a big deal,” says Burt. “Our kids do a good job of scouting to see which tracks they are going to race the next week and putting in the time so they are well-rounded as a team. I think that’s a a big deal. They know some tracks where it’s it’s better to be a front runner or it’s better to kind of bag, pick up items and things like that.”
The Warhawks will race against #6 seeded Sheldon in quarterfinals.
Dike-New Hartford went 6-1 during the regular season to advance to state and will be the #4 seed in the tournament.
