The Grundy Center girls golf team has qualified for the Class 2A State Tournament, having placed second with 375 strokes at Wednesday’s 2A Region 3 final meet at South Hardin. Avery Knutsen led the Spartans by placing fourth with 87 strokes, Leah Larson was seventh with 93, Reagan Pekarek was ninth at 97 and Holly Lubbert was 10th at 98. Individually, South Hardin’s Emma Topp placed fifth with 89 strokes to advance. The 2A state meet will start Thursday, May 29 at Cedar Pointe Golf Course in Boone.
In the 3A Region 4 meet in Williamsburg, DNH/AP placed fifth with 392 strokes. Seeri Smith tied for second place with 84 strokes and Keely Kauten tied for sixth with 88 to qualify. Hampton-Dumont-CAL placed ninth with 502 strokes. The 3A state meet will be at Saddleback Ridge Golf Course in Solon.
At 1A Region 3 at Newman Catholic, AGWSR placed fourth with 390 strokes and Belmond-Klemme was sixth at 401. Individually, Zoey Thompson of North Butler placed eighth with 87 strokes. Emersyn Brown of West Fork tied for 36th with 112 strokes.
