The Wright County boys soccer team will face a top level test against #1 (3A) Dallas Center-Grimes in a Class 3A Substate 6 semifinal on Tuesday. The match will air on 104.9 KLMJ.  This will be the first ever meeting between the programs.

Wright County (4-9-2) advanced to the meeting with a 2-1 win over Iowa Falls-Alden in the substate first round on May 20. Santiago De Leon Juarez helped lift Wright County to the win with two goals. Goalkeeper Jose Alfaro with a save rate of 81 percent stood for his third one goal or less match of the season.

Head Coach Ethan Krogman on the family they’ve developed and taking on top seed.

“It’s the glue that holds us together. We might get on each other sometimes, but at the end of the day, what family doesn’t. Once again, it’s that mentality. We go out there, we fight together, and we get whatever outcome we deserve at the end of the day because that’s how we do things as a family,” says Krogman. “I’m excited for it. I really am. Obviously, they’re number one for a reason. I’m looking forward to the boys and how they can handle a juggernaut of a number one seed.”

Dallas Center-Grimes (11-2-3) received a first round bye and will play their first match since a 10-1 win over Oskaloosa on May 13. The Mustangs have won four of their last five matches and have not lost since April 19. Colin Mandernach fuels the offense with 16 goals. Goalkeeper Jaden Mendias has a save rate of 81.4 percent and has allowed 11 goals this season.

Pregame coverage on 104.9 KLMJ begins at 6:50 p.m. followed by the kickoff at 7:00 p.m. in Grimes.
