The Wright County boys soccer team was unable to come up with enough stops to contend with #1 (3A) Dallas Center-Grimes, falling 10-0 on the road in a 3A Substate 6 semifinal Tuesday, as aired on 104.9 KLMJ.

Wright County banded together defensively to keep the match scoreless for the first 20 minutes of action, as they stood against a consistent offensive attack from the Mustangs. DCG broke through with crisp passing for five goals in the final 20 minutes of half. In the second half, the Mustangs struck quickly with four goals inside the first 12 minutes, and ended the match early scoring their final goal with 23:40 remaining.

Wright County Head Coach Ethan Krogman on how the team battled against the top seed.

“We did exactly what we needed to do. We were right there for 20 minutes and that was kind of the inspiring mark right there. We’re capable, whether they were the number one team, the defending state champs or not,” says Krogman. “Things happen too. When it comes down to it, it’s about how you bounce back from those things and that’s what you saw in the second half. The boys, buckled down and no matter what happened they still bounced back. I’m proud of them for it. The end of the season is the way it is, but it’s nothing to hang my head on.”

This was the final match for four seniors including Ruben Lux, Wiliiam Rivera, John Hernandez and Jose Alfaro.

Wright County ends the season at 4-10-2.
