The #9 (2A) AP/DNH soccer team will look to punch its ticket to the Class 2A state tournament when they travel to #7 (2A) Webster City for the 2A Substate 2 final Thursday. It’ll air on 99 The Wave.
A year after falling one game short, the United will look to advance to the state tournament for the first time in program history. They’re coming off Tuesday’s 7-1 win over Hampton-Dumont-CAL, which was a key indicator of readiness, according to Head Coach Perry Bernard.
The top seed in the bracket, Webster City is undefeated (15-0). They got past Decorah 3-1 in Tuesday’s semifinal, scoring twice in the first half to lead most of the way. Eddy Fuentes-Cruz has 38 goals on the season and Israel Torres has 21, creating one of the best scoring duos in Iowa. The Lynx won 7-1 when the teams met on Tuesday, May 13.
