Falcon Soccer to play regional final at Center Point-Urbana Friday

The Aplington-Parkersburg girls soccer team is one win away from its first ever state tournament appearance, and will travel to #9 (1A) Center Point-Urbana Friday for the 1A Region 8 Final.

Fresh off Wednesday’s 2-1 overtime win at Dike-New Hartford, the Falcons will look to continue a streak of momentum, having won three straight. Head Coach Cory Goetsch on how the team can continue its playoff run.

“I think just being able to take advantage of what we do well, and we have speed on the wings, we’re able to exploit those opportunities,” Goetsch says. “We have a solid, solid defense that does a great job. And our goalkeeper was just playing lights out tonight too, Emma in the goal. So I mean, just having it all come together again, being focused and prepared, I think is going to be key for a good victory for us.”

Goalkeeper Emma Haan recorded 18 saves in Wednesday’s game, a season-high.

The Stormin Pointers (14-1-2) haven’t given up a goal to a postseason opponent, having defeated Vinton-Shellsburg 3-0 in the semifinal and Marquette Catholic 8-0 in the quarterfinal. The Falcon defense will be tasked with slowing down Emily Bowe, whose 20 goals are among the most in the deep WaMaC.

Coverage will start at 5:20 p.m., followed by the kickoff at 5:30.
