Governor Kim Reynolds has been holding meetings with individuals in trying to decide if she will sign into law a bill passed earlier this month in the Iowa Legislature limiting the use of eminent domain when it comes to the Summit Carbon Solutions Pipeline project, or if she will veto it.
Wright County landowner Bob Ritter spoke at the Wright County Board of Supervisors meeting this week about being a part of a group that met with Reynolds.
“To me it’s a 50-50 deal right now because they’re looking at taxes. I mean, nationally, if everything was good, but you look at the pipeline, it’s not a regular pipeline. That’s the first thing. And that throws everything out the door. I did throw in one thing at the end of my statement. She could do this for the hardworking people of Iowa and the Republican platform because our Republican platform says no eminent domain for private gain.”
Wright County Supervisor Dean Kluss is hoping that Reynolds will stand up for the residents.
“You gotta hope that she will do the right thing. In someone’s mind, the right thing is let us build a pipeline. I think the people’s mind, the right thing is uphold the rights of the people and property rights.”
Reynolds has until June 14th to either sign the bill into law or to veto it.
