DNH sends both doubles teams to semis, Falcons in consolations at State Girls Tennis

The Dike-New Hartford girls tennis team will be represented in both 1A doubles semifinal matches after strong performances on Day 1 of the IGHSAU 1A Individual Tennis Tournament at Byrnes Park.

Addy Joslin/Lauren Muller began the day with a 2-1 win over Knoxville, battling back from dropping the first set. In the quarterfinal, they earned a 6-2, 6-3 sweep of Kuemper Catholic. They’ll take on Cedar Rapids Xavier in the semifinals.

Izzy Norton/Aida Tott earned a 6-1, 6-3 sweep of Davis County in the first round, followed by a 2-1 comeback win over Ballard in the quarterfinal. They’ll take on Decorah in a semifinal. Both semifinals will start Saturday at 10:00 a.m. The winners will play for the championship and the losers will play for third place.

Aplington-Parkersburg’s Peyton Klooster/Adria Neymeyer earned a 6-1, 6-0 sweep of Shenandoah in the first round, but fell 2-1 to Cedar Rapids Xavier 6-1, 4-6, 6-3 in the quarterfinal. In their first consolation, they swept North Polk 2-0 to advance to the consolation semifinals. They’ll take on Kuemper Catholic Saturday at 9:30 a.m., where the winner will advance to the fifth place match and the loser will play in the seventh place match.

In singles, Bella Buseman of Aplington-Parkersburg fell 2-0 to Columbus Catholic in the first round, and was swept by Clarinda in the first consolation to bow out of the tournament.

South Hardin’s Abby Teske swept Charles City in the first round, but was swept by Cedar Rapids Xavier in the quarterfinal. Her tournament ended in a 2-0 loss to Clarinda in the consolation quarterfinal.
