Bulldog Baseball notches first win ahead of Field of Dreams game; Softball heading to AGWSR

The Hampton-Dumont-CAL baseball team split a home North Central Conference doubleheader with Humboldt Monday to earn their first win of the season.

After falling 8-3 in the opener, the Bulldogs battled back to win 4-3 in nine innings in the second game. At 1-8, they’ll take on West Marshall Tuesday at the Field of Dreams at 5:00 on 104.9 KLMJ.

The Bulldog softball team (1-2) will play its first game of the week when it travels to AGWSR for non-conference action. With an almost exclusively underclassmen lineup, Head Coach Kelsey Enslin says the first few weeks will be about player development.

“I think we will see a lot of growth, we’re so young,” Enslin says. “Our conference every night’s tough. So you have to come ready to play and just gonna continue to look for us to grow as a team. And hopefully, we’re really gonna focus on being more offensive as a team. So hoping we can continue to develop that here in these next few weeks.”

Charlee Morton has a .556 average to lead offensively. Eighth grade pitcher Kendall Eilderts has a 3.17 ERA through the first three games.

AGWSR (1-4) will look to snap a four-game losing streak. Trevyn Smith has a .529 average to lead the team, but the pitching staff has given up 39 runs through five games. It’ll start at 7:00 p.m.
