Cadet Softball heading to Clarion-Goldfield-Dows Wednesday

After the Iowa Falls-Alden baseball and softball games against Nevada Tuesday were postponed, the softball team will return to action Wednesday at Clarion-Goldfield-Dows.

The Cadets (1-2) have been tested by two ranked teams through the first three games, including Monday’s loss to #4 (1A) St. Edmond and a loss to #7 (2A) West Fork in the season opener. The lone win was 4-3 over Algona. With a team batting average of .263, Head Coach Emily Banken says there’s a lot of room for offensive improvement.

“Improving our team batting average has been a big goal for us over the past few years, and we have improved from year to year,” Banken says. “We really just try to break the swing down for the girls and work on drills that are going to help them individually. And they’ve had some success in spring league and in practice so far, putting the ball in play, having a lot of hard hit balls. And so I’m pretty confident in their ability to do that. As we move further into the season, it’d be awesome to have a little more depth in some of our hitting and I think we’ll see that. So I’m looking forward to it.”

Three players bat over .500, including Abigail Janssen, Isabelle Janssen, and leader Addison Vanderloop at .625.

Clarion-Goldfield-Dows (0-4) will look to score its first run of the season and look for a more competitive game after lopsided losses to start the season.
The first pitch will be at 7:30 p.m.
