Falcon summer teams had shortened trip to Waterloo Tuesday

The Aplington-Parkersburg summer sports teams were at Columbus Catholic for NICL-Central doubleheaders Tuesday, but both were shortened due to weather. The baseball team won 6-4 in game 1, and game 2 was rescheduled to Thursday, June 19 at home.

The softball team trailed 10-0 in the second inning when the first game was suspended.

In the completed baseball game, the Falcons got on the board with a run in the top of the first inning. They scored four in the fifth and one in the sixth while preventing the Sailors from capitalizing on a late-inning rally. Preston Janssen was 3-4, and Jaxson Kleespies was 2-3 with two RBIs. Janssen got the start and pitched four innings while allowing two hits and four strikeouts. It was AP’s first win of the season.

Both teams will return to action Wednesday at Sumner-Fredericksburg. The softball game will start at 3:30 and the baseball game will start at 5:00.
