Field of Dreams game rescheduled for Hampton-Dumont-CAL

Hampton-Dumont-CAL’s baseball game at the Field of Dreams has been rescheduled to Wednesday, June 18 at 4:00 p.m. It was originally scheduled for Tuesday, but rain caused the field to be unplayable.

It leaves the Bulldogs with several days before their next game, when they travel to Saint Ansgar for an invitational on Saturday. Head Coach Matt Lokenvitz on how the team can continue to progress offensively.

“Carson Helmke is doing a really nice job, moved him to the leadoff spot,” Lokenvitz says. “He’s our shortstop. He’s just a sophomore and he’s been spraying the ball all over the place for us. He’s pretty fast as well. Once he gets on, he really puts pressure on the defense. Will Vosburg, just a freshman, was on the team last year, made the varsity roster last year and then he got hurt wrestling. So he didn’t get to play most of the season. He’s been catching, but he can play a little bit all over the place and he’s been batting really well for us as well. The big thing for us is gonna be, we’re gonna need some of those upperclassmen to really start to hit and really come to play every day and kind of help with these young guys that are hitting, that are trying to do everything that they can.”

In Tuesday action, the Bulldog softball team fell 7-2 at AGWSR. At 1-3, they’ll have a quick turnaround when they host #4 (1A) St. Edmond Wednesday. In their last conference game, the Gaels defeated Iowa Falls-Alden 11-2 on Monday, and are led by an .833 average by senior Mariah Myers. It’ll start at 7:30.
