Over 200-thousand people are located in drought areas of Iowa

The latest U-S Drought Monitor Report through Tuesday morning shows that the coverage area of no drought conditions in Iowa shrunk by almost 16 percent compared to the week before, standing at 28-point-33 percent this week.

The coverage area for the abnormally dry category increased by over 12 percent, and the coverage area for moderate drought increased by over 3 percent.

No drought conditions are listed in most of Cerro Gordo, Butler, and Grundy Counties in the broadcast area, along with all of Wright, Franklin and Hardin Counties.

The remainder of the local area is listed as being abnormally dry.

One year ago, around 77 percent of Iowa was drought free.
