#2 (1A) Clarksville Softball Enters Four Game Homestand Undefeated

The #2 (1A) Clarksville softball team (8-0, 6-0 Iowa Star-North) is out their best undefeated start to a season since 2023, when they reached 22-0 before their first loss. The Indians will open a four game homestand by hosting Colo-Nesco in Iowa Star Conference action on Monday.

Clarksville last time out won 23-0 over Baxter in four innings on Friday. The Indians have scored in double figures in six of their first eight games, while allowing a max of five runs to opponents.

Head Coach Katie Burman on the team’s hot start and depth of run producers.

“We been talking all year leading up to this season since last season ended, about some goals that we had in mind. Starting off with such big wins and such good games, is exactly what we’re looking for to keep getting us closer to those goals,” says Burman. “We really have 10 or 11 girls that could hit varsity. It’s a good problem to have. I’m still trying to figure out a lineup. All one through nine in our batting lineup can hit and produce runs.”

Five different Indians have driven in 10 or more runs, led by Paige Kampman with a .640 average and 18 RBI. Sydney Lovrien has put up all-conference numbers in the circle at 8-0 with a 1.27 ERA and 58 strikeouts.

Burman on how remembering to have fun helps boost the team during busy game weeks.

“I think a big thing for our girls, it’s a ton of games in a row. They’re spending every night of their summer at the softball diamond. So making sure they’re having fun and that it’s a good time. Making sure that it’s not anything that they dread. They all do such a good job of that. Our dugout is one of the funnest dugouts I think to watch. They’re always cheering each other on. They’ve got props in the dugout. Trying to make sure they’re having fun, I think is a big thing.”

Colo Nesco (2-6, 1-5 Iowa Star-South) went 1-1 at home tournament on Saturday with a win over Coon Rapids-Bayard and a loss to Belmond-Klemme. Jaydyn Niemeyer leads the team with a .435 average and four RBI.

Clarksville has won every meeting with the Royals since 2016.

First pitch is at 7:00 p.m. at Volunteer Park.
