Wolverines win two at Grundy Center Monday

The Dike-New Hartford summer sports teams each earned one-run victories at Grundy Center Monday. The Wolverines won the baseball game 3-2 in nine innings and the softball game 2-1.

In the baseball game, the teams were scoreless through the end of regulation. In the eighth inning, the Wolverines got on the board with RBIs by Carson Costello on a triple and a Lewis Textor single. Down to their final out in the bottom of the eighth, Hayden Geerdes drove in two runs with the bases loaded to tie the game. In the ninth, Colin Meester scored on an error that put the Wolverines on top for good, and they held the Spartans off the board in the bottom of the inning for the win. The Wolverines will be at Nevada Tuesday at 7:30, and the Spartans will host Aplington-Parkersburg at 7:00.

In the softball game, the Spartans got on the board with their only run in the sixth inning when Evelyn Geerdes scored on an error. In the top of the seventh, Madde Buskohl was driven home on a sacrifice fly, and Kailyn Meester drove in the go-ahead run. The Wolverines will return to action Wednesday by hosting South Hardin. Grundy Center will host Aplington-Parkersburg Tuesday at 5:00 on 104.9 KLMJ.
