The Hampton-Dumont-CAL softball team defeated Webster City 5-3 at home Wednesday in North Central Conference action. After giving up a run in the third, they scored three in the bottom of the inning and two in the fifth to create separation.
It was a bounce back from Tuesday’s shutout loss to #9 (2A) Osage, and the team has won three of their last four games. Head Coach Kelsey Enslin says on a team of mostly underclassmen, seniors Charlee Morton and Mallory Rieken have provided invaluable experience and support while setting the tone for the culture of the program.
“Having Mallory and Charlee, we have really good seniors out there, and they have a lot of experience in all sports,” Enslin says. “Just all around good kids that have great leadership skills. They don’t get rattled by a lot, so they’re out there leading our younger girls. Our girls really trust each other.”
Morton has a team-high .565 batting average and Rieken has commanded the infield with a team-high in putout assists.
They’ll return to action Friday at Humboldt.
