In light of Governor Kim Reynolds decision on Wednesday to veto House File 639, an act relating to infrastructure projects, like the Summit Carbon Solutions Pipeline, the Iowa Utilities Commission acknowledges the governor’s guidance and will begin implementing several process improvements immediately.
Although the bill was vetoed, the IUC says in a news release that the commission recognizes the importance of the transparency measures it proposed. The commission closely followed the bill’s progression through both the Iowa House and Senate and has listened to the discussions and public input surrounding it.
In the veto statement, Reynolds emphasized the need for increased commissioner engagement, specifically requesting that commissioners be present during live testimony and at least one commissioner attend every informational meeting.
In addition, the IUC is also announcing the return of monthly public commission meetings in August.
