The #4 (2A) West Fork softball team was dominant in a 16-0, four-inning win at North Butler Wednesday in Top of Iowa-East action. The North Butler baseball team was leading the Warhawks 5-1 when the game was suspended after the fourth inning, as aired on 104.9 KLMJ.

In the baseball game, Nolan Schreckengost hit a sacrifice fly in the top of the first inning for a 1-0 West Fork lead, which was the exception to a pitcher’s dual through the first 3.5 innings. In the bottom of the fourth, the Bearcats loaded the bases, and Henry Endelman drove in two runs on a double to take the lead.

Later in the inning, Alex Almelien doubled to drive in three runs to give the Bearcats some cushion. The game was suspended after the fourth inning ended due to incoming severe weather.

“West Fork’s guy they had the mound tonight, he kind of has a interesting release, kind of an interesting ball path coming into the zone,” North Butler coach Chase Stohr says. “So it takes a little bit to kind of adjust to that. And as the game progressed, my boys were starting to get that figured out. It was awesome to see the bottom of the order liven up with those bats. That’s kind of been an issue for us to start the season, getting those bats going throughout the entire order, not just the top of the order. So it was great to see some of those kids in the bottom half of the order get some clutch hits.”

The teams combined for just three hits through the first four innings.

The game will resume Thursday at 1:30 p.m., after which the teams will depart for their regularly scheduled games. West Fork will play at Clarksville at 5:00 and North Butler will play at Hampton-Dumont-CAL at 7:30.

In the softball game, the Warhawks put together a dominant performance to complete the game via the run margin rule shortly before the severe weather arrived. North Butler will be at Clarksville Thursday at 6:45 at West Fork will return to action Friday by hosting Nashua-Plainfield.
