Bulldogs to host Algona in summer sports Monday

The Hampton-Dumont-CAL summer sports teams will resume North Central Conference action by hosting Algona Monday. The baseball teams will play a varsity doubleheader and the softball teams will play a single varsity game.

The softball team was last in action Friday, a 6-5 loss at Humboldt. That night, the Wildcats scored four runs in the third inning to do the bulk of their damage, and late-inning consistent scoring by the Bulldogs came up short. Algona has won two straight, including 4-1 over Clear Lake Friday in a strong defensive performance. Maya Lentz leads Algona with a .441 average and pitcher Allison Trunkhill enters with an ERA of 2.66. It’ll start at 7:30.

The Hampton-Dumont-CAL baseball team has picked up steam after a slow start, having won three of their last four games. In their last game, they walked off North Butler for a 3-2 win after surrendering two runs to the Bearcats in the top of the seventh inning. Algona is 8-0 in conference play to lead the standings, but has lost two straight in non-conference play to Estherville Lincoln Central and Solon. Tate Slagle leads the team and conference with a .544 batting average and a league-leading three home runs and 20 RBIs. The first game will start at 5:00.
