Bulldog Baseball to compete at Field of Dreams Wednesday

**Update – the Field of Dreams game has been cancelled**

The Hampton-Dumont-CAL baseball team will take on West Marshall at the Field of Dreams Wednesday at 4:00. It’ll air on 99 The Wave.

It’ll be the team’s first game of the week after games on Monday and Tuesday were postponed. After a slow start, they’ve won three of their last four games to pick up momentum. Head Coach Matt Lokenvitz looks forward to facing a perennially strong program.

“They’re a great program, and we started playing them a few years back, it’s been a great test for us,” Lokenvitz says. “I really like our kids playing against some top level talent just to show them where we would like to get to. It wasn’t that long ago, just three short years ago, we were one of those top teams. We were 23-8, playing really well, beating some really competitive teams, doing those types of things. It’s kind of getting them back into that confidence that we can also compete with some of these really great, well-coached teams. When we wanted to do the Field of Dreams game, we weren’t sure exactly who the opponent should be. We just called up West Marshall, thought it’d be a great fit for both of us and they agreed for that. It’ll just be a great experience for them to go and see what that’s like.”

West Marshall (12-6) had a 10-game win streak snapped in their last game, a 5-4 loss to Grand View Christian Monday. Pregame coverage will start at 3:45.

The softball team will play its first game of the week when it travels to Clear Lake for a North Central Conference game. They were last in action Friday, a 6-5 loss at Humboldt. That night, the Wildcats scored four runs in the third inning to do the bulk of their damage, and late-inning consistent scoring by the Bulldogs came up short. Clear Lake is 6-1 in conference play to lead the standings. Taylor Schwenn bats .538 to lead the team. It’ll start at 7:30.
