Cadet summer teams to compete in different locations Wednesday

The Iowa Falls-Alden summer sports teams will play on the road in North Central Conference action Wednesday. The baseball team will play a doubleheader at St. Edmond and the softball team will play a single game at Algona.

At 3-5 in conference play, it’ll be a crucial opportunity for the baseball team against an opponent that’s winless in conference play.

“We’ve seen quality teams, we’ve seen Algona and Humboldt, four games already this year,” Head Coach Wyatt Ziesman says. “And we had a couple of close games, almost got one from Algona, almost got one from Humboldt. We took one from Webster City. So we’re excited to see the other half of the conference and really put our foot on the gas pedal and try to better ourselves as a team, and just show improvement every game out there and make a run for it.”

The team will look to bounce back from losing five of their last six games, including 6-3 to Gilbert on Friday. Ryder Pitre leads with a .405 batting average. Game 1 will start at 5:00 at Harlan Rogers Sports Complex.

The softball team has a chance to climb in the conference standings, entering near the middle of the pack at 3-3. They’ve won two straight, including a 3-2 walk-off win over Webster City in their most recent game. Algona is 4-2 in conference play, and defeated Clear Lake 4-1 in their last conference game Friday. The Cadets won 4-3 when the teams met in Iowa Falls earlier this season. It’ll start at 7:30.
