Belmond-Klemme Softball Will Host a Local Invite Tournament on Saturday

The Belmond-Klemme softball team will host AGWSR, Hampton-Dumont-CAL and North Butler for an invite tournament on Saturday.

B-K Co-Head Coach Shannon Muhlenbruch

“All three of these programs that we’re facing in our tournament, I think are quality teams traditionally and this year. I think it’s going to be, to be honest with you a nice little four team tournament. We get to see some different competition and they hopefully will see some different competition,” says Muhlenbruch. “Every day we play, we remind our players of two things, we go 1-0 today and don’t cheat yourself or your fans. That means come out and play, give them a good show, give them your best effort and good things can happen.”

The Broncos (11-2) won 3-1 at Lake Mills on Wednesday and won 12-6 over Eagle Grove in Wright County rivalry on Friday. In the circle, Kaylen Morris has been locked in for the Broncos with a 3.56 ERA and 103 strikeouts in 13 games. Morris also leads at the plate with 22 RBI.

AGWSR (6-13) enters the tournament as winners of three of their last four games, with a sweep of South Hardin in a doubleheader (8-1 and 13-1), a win over Colo-Nesco (12-2) and loss to Denver (12-2). Brylea Metzgar leads the pitching staff with a 3.46 ERA and 40 strikeouts in 11 games. Trevyn Smith has provided pop at the plate with a .483 average.

All three of their scheduled games this week (Algona, Janesville, Clear Lake) were called off by the weather, with two postponements and a cancellation. Kendall Eilderts in the circle entered the week with a 2.98 ERA and 52 strikeouts. Charlee Morton has driven in 13 runs to lead the Bulldogs.
