Greenbelt Bank and Trust is partnering with Make a Wish Iowa to host the 3rd Annual Wishes on Deck All Star Softball game on Sunday at Legion Field in Iowa Falls.

Chairman of Greenbelt Bank and Trust Board Chris Weaver on the opportunity be apart of something bigger.

“It’s about the opportunity to give back to people in need. I think we feel blessed to be able to do this because there are people who wake up every day with families, with children, who struggle. They struggle to get out of bed. They struggle to put one foot in front of the other,” says Weaver. “It’s a great opportunity for us as a bank to do something special in our own community, invite everyone around us to come in and be a part of it. Then also have a good time. That’s what we’re all about.”

Weaver on the in-state rivalry being showcased in the softball game.

“We’re talking about a rivalry that has gone back for a bit of time here in the state of Iowa. We got, Iowa State University, the Cyclones and the University of Iowa, the Hawkeyes coming to Iowa Falls. It’s a nice roster of guys. Rocco Becht is making an appearance along with people like Caleb Bacon. Then you got Karson Sharar on the Iowa side. He’s an Iowa Falls native. I’m looking to see him do some good things out on the field this year. Pretty much we got a great lineup of guys. We feel blessed to have this great group come in here to Iowa Falls.”

Players scheduled to compete in the game from both in-state universities include.

Team SWARM (University of Iowa) features: Seth Anderson, Rhys Dakin, Aaron Graves, Mark Gronowski, TJ Hall, Deshaun Lee, Zach Lutmer, Kamari Moulton, Xavier Nwankpa, Karson Sharar and Kaden Wetjen.

Team We Will (Iowa State University) features: Caleb Bacon, Rocco Becht, Ben Brahmer, Caden Matson, Will McLaughlin, Easton Miller, Tyler Moore, Domonique Orange, Jamison Patton and Chase Sowell.

In addition, attendees for $10 will be able to line up for autographs from these players inside the armory.

Weaver on a leading goal for the fundraiser.

“We’re trying to help seven families and sponsor seven families about $15,000 per family. That’s what it costs to grant a wish on average for each of these families. So many people are getting behind it, we have such great support, I think that’s not going to be a problem. The sky’s the limit because we live in such a great community. We are surrounded by such great people and other great communities, who love Iowa and who love Iowa State. Hopefully we get a good turnout. That’s my biggest concern. It’s just getting a lot of people here. It’s on a Sunday. It’s going to be a warm day. Bring your tents, bring your fold up bag chairs, bring something cold to drink and we should have a great day.”

Festivities are scheduled to begin at 3:00 p.m. More information on the event including how to purchase tickets, donate and how to participate in the silent auction can be found at wishesondeck.com.
