Franklin Auditor discusses courthouse repairs with the supervisors

Today the Franklin County Board of Supervisors discussed options to help pay for repair work on the courthouse roof, along with tuckpointing of the building.

The courthouse received hail and wind damage earlier this year.

Franklin County Auditor Katy Flint told the supervisors that even with insurance coverage, the chances of the county receiving a lot of money from the policy may be slim.

“The way our insurance works for a hail and wind deductible on the courthouse, it is 2 % of the replacement value of the courthouse plus $25,000, which puts our insurance, basically our deductible at about $266,000. So while we may get a little, we don’t know by the time we’re done with the public bids and finishing the project, the engineer costs do apply towards that, et cetera. If we get anything, it won’t be much. It’ll mostly be out of pocket.”

The Franklin County Board of Supervisors did authorize the appropriations to the county officers and departments for fiscal year 2026.
