EMS expansion underway in Butler County

An effort is underway to expand Emergency Medical Services in Butler County.

Butler County EMS Coordinator Kari Coates tells RadioOnTheGo News the process will take time to get to an Advanced/Paramedic Level Service.

“Continue to do is if an ambulance needs an EMT, just an EMT, we’re going to continue to offer what we already are. One of the highlights is, is we’re already going to be in route to that scene or to that ambulance station. So if they need a higher level of care, we’re already in route and we’ll be able to offer that for them. So it’s going to save a lot of time and saving time means saving lives. So it’s a win-win.”

Coates says support from the public is always needed.

“Continue to support your local EMS, whether it’s Butler County, Franklin County, Bremer County, I don’t care what county, all EMS needs help. You can’t volunteer personally, help them find ways that you can volunteer for them. Or even just saying, hey, we appreciate you. It goes a long ways. That helps us wanna keep going. I’m very lucky and very fortunate that our county is very supportive. Our Board of Supervisors is super supportive.”

Coates has hired a part-time advanced EMT to help out on calls around the county during their 2nd shift.
