The Iowa Falls-Alden softball team built a 4-2 lead over Hampton-Dumont-CAL after two and a half innings, but the rest of the game was suspended due to thunderstorms Wednesday, as aired on 104.9 KLMJ.

The Cadets got on the board in the first inning when Isabelle Janssen scored on an errant throw in the infield, followed by an RBI single by Brooklyn Handeland for a 2-0 lead. In the next half inning, Aliyah Swieter reached on an error, followed by a two-run homer to left field by Charlee Morton, her fourth of the season. Isabelle Janssen doubled to drive home Montana Thies, followed by a sac fly by Abigail Janssen to give the Cadets two more runs before the game was suspended.

Hampton-Dumont-CAL will host Algona Thursday at 7:30, and Head Coach Kelsey Enslin hopes the offense can pick up where it left off Wednesday, a game that followed two straight shutout losses.

“We definitely have to play sharp defense, we can’t give them any of those bobbles or extra bases, extra at-bats,” Enslin says. “And then we have to be offensive. Every at-bat matters every time, every appearance, we have to limit our strikeouts, and make them make plays or at least put the ball in play, because that’s when things are going to happen.”

Iowa Falls-Alden will return to action Thursday at Southeast Valley.

Wednesday’s game will resume Thursday, July 3 at 11:00 a.m.
