The West Fork baseball team earned an 8-4 home win in a morning game over Newman Catholic Wednesday.
The Knights got on the board with three runs in the first inning, but consistent scoring by the Warhawks followed to take control of the game. West Fork scored twice each in the second and third innings, and had their best offensive output in the fourth inning with four runs to create separation. Trevor Despenas, Ashyr Wiseman and Nolan Shreckengost each had two hits to lead offensively. Braden Kuhlemeier was the winning pitcher with two strikeouts and four walks in three innings.
The baseball and softball teams were scheduled to travel to Central Springs Wednesday evening, but those games were postponed to a later date.
The #8 (2A) Warhawk softball team has another day off before Friday’s home game against Saint Ansgar. Senior pitcher Libby Trewin has a crisp 1.17 ERA against Top of Iowa-East teams with a league-leading 75 strikeouts.
“She does a phenomenal job,” Head Coach Sadie Winfrey says. “There’s times that they get runners on and she does a great job of getting out of those situations. It could look a lot different if she didn’t, so she keeps working hard and helping us to be where we are.”
Friday’s game will start at 6:00 p.m.
