Hampton-Dumont-CAL was scheduled to host baseball and softball games Thursday, but neither happened due to weather. The baseball doubleheader against #8 (3A) Saydel was cancelled, and the softball game against Algona was postponed.
The softball team will return to action Friday by hosting Clarion-Goldfield-Dows in North Central Conference action. In a week-long stretch of almost exclusively conference play, Head Coach Kelsey Enslin says the team has the potential to climb the standings.
“We’re right in the mix, obviously, St. Edmond, Clear Lake and Algona, they’re all in the mix at the top, but there’s a lot of games, a lot of season left to play to compete and knock some of those teams off,” Enslin says. “And we’re a really young team. So we talked a lot about competing and what that looks like, and what it feels like and those things. So just really pushing ourselves to grow in that. Looking forward to watching the girls compete and grow and get ready to go come July 10th.”
At 3-4 in conference play, the Bulldogs are in the middle of the standings.
Clarion-Goldfield-Dows will go for its first win of the season. They last competed Monday, an 11-0 loss at Iowa Falls-Alden.
Hampton-Dumont-CAL won 11-1 in four innings when the teams met earlier in the season. It’ll start at 7:30 p.m.
